PUSHAL GRADE-B Saffron

Pushal Grade-B saffron is a classification within the Pushal saffron category, characterized by specific features that distinguish it from higher grades. Pushal saffron, in general, includes the red stigmas along with a portion of the yellow style (1–8 mm), resulting in a slightly lower coloring strength compared to all-red varieties like Sargol.

Quality and Characteristics:

  • Stigma Appearance: The stigmas in Grade-B Pushal saffron are wavy with normal thickness, and they contain more of the yellow style (cream) compared to higher grades.
  • Coloring Strength: This grade has a moderate coloring power, typically ranging between 200–230 units, due to the presence of the style.
  • Aroma: It possesses a floral and slightly honeyed fragrance, capable of infusing an entire dish with its delightful scent.
  • Aroma and Taste: Despite its lower coloring strength, Pushal Grade-B saffron offers a robust aroma and flavor, making it suitable for various culinary applications.

Comparison with Other Grades:

  • Grade A+ (Pushal Qalamdar): Features thick, smooth, and elongated stigmas with minimal curliness and less yellow style, resulting in higher coloring power.
  • Grade C (Weak Pushal): Characterized by very weak, brittle, and thin stigmas, often resulting from insufficient water, unsuitable soil, or weak saffron bulbs.

Uses of Pushal Grade-B Saffron:

Due to its balance between quality and affordability, Pushal Grade-B saffron is commonly used in:

  • Culinary Applications: Ideal for home cooking, it enhances the flavor and color of various dishes.
  • Food Industry: Utilized in the production of products like ice creams, syrups, and confections, where a strong aroma and moderate coloring are desired.
